World Cup 2010 Play-off: Russia - Slovenia (14.11)

·

Info

Aside from being twice defeated by Germany and a slip-up against Azerbaijan (1:1) in their final group game, Russia won all their other seven fixtures.

With no big-name stars to accommodate, team unity has been the key factor in Slovenia’s success in the recent qualifying campaign. They battled hard to reach the play-offs in a evenly-matched group which included Slovakia, Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Poland.

The visitors will defend in numbers and try not to concede too many. The first leg of a two match tie can often be a tight affair and it could be a game of few clear cut chances at either end. Slovenia are the underdog in this clash heaping yet further pressure on Russia.

Possible line-ups

Russia (4-3-3): Akinfeev - Yanbaev, Ignashevich, Berezutsky, Zhirkov - Bilyaletdinov, Rebko, Semak - Torbinsky, Sychev, Arshavin

Slovenia (4-4-2): Handanovic - Brecko, Suler, Cesar, Jokic (or Ilic) - Birsa, Radosavljevic, Stevanovic, Kirm - Novakovic, Dedic
